MuffinGirl agony auntI'd say don't worry about that too much. If you're enjoying your life as you said you're, then be happy about that. And if weed has good affections to you, why not? I think point of our lifes is in happiness.

Yes, weed do have affection in personallity, you can become a little apathetic and so. But it's all depends on persons, so you should find out what kind of affections has on you. If you would see weed just makes you unhappy, then stop to smoke it. With marijuana you can see and feel things different than usual. Just don't smoke too much, one or two joints a day is enough for you. What is more it's just too much.

Aunty Em agony auntIn ways I do agree with Tellulah. I suppose it is difficult and seen as more harmful when you have to watch someone hooked on it.

However, marijuana is not addictive. Although, can be mentally. However, that is SO much more easier to overcome than an actual physical addiction that heroin can cause.

My argument for marijuana being 'fine in moderation' is that; it isn't addictive and it relaxes you yet it is illegal. The irony is, ALCOHOL and CIGARETTES are LEGAL when both are addictive, and together cost the government millions to aid people with problems linked to them. Where as you rarely get cases where people are having problems with marijuana. Even if they did, it is all mental and thus a lot easier and cheaper to ease than a physical addiction!

A male reader, Collaroy Australia +, writes (1 September 2008):

Collaroy agony auntHi,

I believe the odd joint every now and then isnt a major problem, but like any drug, daily usage will eventually affect you. Many people develop pyschological problems, lack of motivation, and a truckload of other mental and physcial problems as a result of constant pot smoking.

Best to keep straight and spend your money on activities which promote good health, keep the pot use for the odd puff at a party if you want to indulge occasionally.

Pot is also much stronger these days than it used to be, I remember in the 80's you would get the giggles ,these days you get paranoid. It can be quite dangerous with regular use. So be aware of the side affects and try and make the right choices .

good luck.

TELLULAH agony auntThis is a subject very close to my heart. I get sick and tired of people droning on about how it is harmless. WELL ITS NOT.

In some cases, (only for medical reasons mind) I agree that it can help. But anyone that says how harmless it is, obviously hasnt really seen the damage that it does.

I have been trying to get my son to stop smoking the dam stuff for 4 years. I am really lucky that he hasnt gone on to harder drugs, because I believe thats where it can lead to, if you are easily led, or weak willed.

He is hooked, and even when it has made him ill, he wont give up. It stops you functioning normally, your eating patterns change, and the worst is that it will make you really angry and selfish when you cant get the stuff.

I really truly believe the stuff should never have been lowered to class C (is it?), well whatever! I think it does do you harm. In fact I know it does, because I have had to live with it.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (1 September 2008):

I see Pot use as the same as getting drunk.

If you are doing it every now and then and have fun doing it then great. If you do it automatically every day then you have a problem.

Why not just try to go without it for a few days? You might find you don't need it and it's just become a habit to spark up when you get home. If you or your boyfriend can't go a week without it then you may have formed a dependency. It's not physically addictive like alcohol but it is mentally addictive like gambling.

Here is the science bit...

* Even hardcore smokers can become anxious, panicky and suspicious.

* It affects your coordination, which is one of the reasons why drug driving is just as illegal as drink driving.

* Some people think cannabis is harmless just because it’s a plant – but it isn’t harmless. Cannabis, like tobacco, has lots of chemical 'nasties', which can cause lung disease and cancer with long-term or heavy use, especially as it is often mixed with tobacco. It can also make asthma worse.

* Cannabis is risky for anyone with a heart problem as it increases the heart rate and can affect blood pressure.

* There’s also increasing evidence of a link between cannabis and mental health problems such as schizophrenia. If you’ve a history of mental health problems, depression or are experiencing paranoia, then taking this drug is not a good idea.

* Frequent use of cannabis can cut a man's sperm count and suppress ovulation in women. If you’re pregnant, smoking cannabis may harm the baby.

* Regular, heavy use makes it difficult to learn and concentrate. Some people begin to feel tired all the time and can't seem to get motivated.

* Some users may want to buy stronger herbal cannabis to get ‘a bigger high’ but unpleasant reactions can be more powerful when you use stronger strains, and stronger varieties may lead in time to more severe dependence or more severe mental health effects.

A female reader, Aunty Em United Kingdom +, writes (1 September 2008):

Aunty Em agony auntMarijuana is not an addictive drug. As you will know it calms you and relaxes you in to a state where usually un-funny things become hilarious! No one has ever died from overdosing on marijuana. The only time someone has died from it as a cause, was because they were allergic to the substance. It can damage your taste buds! I'm not sure what else though ...
