 IF 18 is the legal age (as it is here for sexual consent here in the states) then LEGALLY it's ok.
It's the moral implications of someone in a position of power having sex with someone they can control.
IF the 18 yr old and the professor (sounds like a sitcom waiting to happen) want a relationship they should wait till the professor is not the 18 yr old's professor then pursue a relationship....

Yes, if you are at an age to give legal consent, it is not illegal to have sex with someone in a position of authority. However, it is unethical, and prohibited by his profession. It it were known that you were having sex he could lose his job or be barred from any form of teaching potentially, depending on the legislation. In some cases it also depends on whether or not he is or has been your professor for one of your classes, but generally it is considered improper conduct.

Its also an ego booster for them. Don't let him use you. I got warned and ignored the advice. I regret that decision. Good luck to you

 It won't be a question of criminal law as much as the university's code of ethics. No doubt the university will have that code posted on line.
