 Yes, hunny they do happen...and its not just a guys fantasy. Without giving away details have been involved in a couple threesomes and they were great experiences, and i have no regrets.
But i do hear the horror stories about threesomes breaking up good couples and not worth getting into in the long run. In my case it was among friends, nobody getting serious or hurt, and was just straight fun. i thnk all the ingredients and players have to be right for it to work. I dont think most married couples can handle threesomes, becuse of issues of jealousy and potential attachment with the third party, but in a controled situation and absolute consent with everybody, it can happen and be a good thing.
If you plan on doing this please keep your emotions out of it, and do it for the fun of it.

yes 3 some happen. like the other but be very carefull. my wife and i have had several, our first whilst we were in our 20 and the last late last year. i think we are better suited now that we are in our late 40.
you both need to discuss it and be at want to do it. they are all differant i like the mmf as i like to watch my wife with the second guy, but when we were younger we had mff. if you wife likes it you will be supprised

And not only a man's fantasy! The possibilities are endless... I'm not a lesbian nor bisexual, maybe bi curious, but I think a FFF would be a lot of fun! (Being that all of us were single though... so no feelings get hurt)

Maybe not as the 'norm' in most relationships, but they do happen. if you and your girl are planning on it, my tips are 1) let HER choose who you're getting involved and 2) don't make it a friend. That's waaaaay too complicated.
