I was a perfect size 8 but because all of my friends are bigger than me (sizes 14+) I thought well I'm never going to be as big as them so I'll eat what I want when I want.. but recently I have put on around TWO stone!! I am now a size 12.

A lot of people have been saying I have put on an awful lot of weight and I look very diffrent.

At first it didn't bother me at all but the more people have saying it the more I want to go back to my old size 8. I feel massive!

Today my larger friend had a huge go at me because I was counting my calories and eating healthily she said that I make her feel huge, ugly and unhealthy and that I shouldn't be worried about my weight, another one tried making me eat a bag of chips.. are they jealous because I'm going to lose weight?

There is also somthing else I haven't told them - I am on slimming tablets.. are they jealous or generally worried about me? I feel disgusting.

If they say they don't want you to diet because it makes them feel bad then they are just jealous.

There is nothing wrong with eating healthily.

However, diet pills are either going to be at best, some useless herbs, and it worst, something really dangerous, or just talcum powder.. Do not waste your money on them. Anyone who tells you that you can get thin by swallowing something.

Good Luck!! xx

I don't know if its a UK thing, but in the US size 12 is not considered small.Size 12 is for overweight(not obese) girls.Every person's body frame is different so the weight they carry depends on how tall they are, is it more fat weight or muscle weight etc etc. So if you feel you don't look good with the extra weight then you must lose it.I think size 8 looks much better than size 12. I'm a size 12 myself and I'll be very very happy if I can go down to size 8.Thats my goal size actually.I've noticed that dresses fit and looks better on size 8 than 12.Also, for health reasons, we should all watch we are eating. If they are your good friends they should learn the good things from you instead of forcing you to eat a big bag of chips.

A female reader, Miss Potter United Kingdom +, writes (22 October 2008):

Miss Potter agony auntWell done for making the effort to slim down. Keep it up. Size eight if perfect, I am trying to lose weight too, I am size 10/12, 5.6 and I feel fattiesh... Anyways, yes, your friends feel jealous, because they dont have it in them to give up all those fatty things they are eating. I suggest you offer them to join you in your diet, if they refuse, dont let them make you feel bad. I actually think it is great that you have experienced weight gain now and have gone on a diet, because you will learn how to manage your weight early. When you get to uni people tend to put on quite a bit of weight, but if you will learn to eat healthily now that shouldnt be a problem in the future.

Good luck!

Georgiex.x agony auntHi,

Your friends can't tell you what to do. If you want to lose weight then that is completely your choice - it's not your fault they don't. But to be fair, your friends are you friends and they are worrying about you. Talk with them about it and say that you want to loose some weight. You need their support. But don't get paranoid about calories, a size 12 is still very small. xxx
