Are my dreams trying to tell me something?

A female United Kingdom age 26-29, *issConfused.com writes:

Dear Agony Aunts,

I have recently been having recurrent dreams based around the same person – my guy best friend and was hoping someone on here might be able to help my confusion - it'll make sense at the end.

(Background info - I'm a 14 yo girl from London, complicated situation in which I've fallen for my bestfriend)

Anyway....

The dreams started when I decided I was going to tell him my feelings for him – I think I love him (and still do) as a boyfriend instead of a friend.

At first these dreams were about me and him flirting constantly although we were not officially dating. However, we had an argument the night I was going to lay my cards on the table and I didn’t tell him and we haven’t spoken since. I haven’t felt whole since and feel heartbroken but that doesn’t mean the dreams have stopped – in fact they happen more often now.

However they have changed.

Before the argument (my birthday weekend) I had a dream about me and him flirting so much we were practically a couple and then we were walking together hand in hand through a courtyard but it seemed to be like a kind of maze. And I said something along the lines of “so do you think we should make it official?” And he replied, “I don’t think that would be best.” And then I seem to remember him walking into an indoor basketball court leaving me standing there.

The following night I had a dream about him coming and finding me at my hotel (I was abroad at the time) and wanting to spend my birthday with me etc. and so whisked me off my feet.

Another more recent dream was one that I had when I was eating dinner with him and his parents? Weird I know. But then the waiter was someone I am very close to and have developed feelings for (nothing permanent though) and I kept winking and flirting with the waiter as if to tease my bf. It angered him but I woke up before I could find out his reaction.

Anyway these are just some of the more poignant dreams but they all seem very similar. I tried to forget about him but it is impossible as I see him regularly and my dreams are making me question things. Are my dreams telling me to tell him? They are really confusing me and I would just like a little help.

Sorry for the essay!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

A reader, anonymous, writes (28 June 2010):

I think that you're having these dreams because you care so much about him and you like him a lot. Also, because you think about him a lot when you're awake, so you think about him a lot when you're sleeping.

I think that it would be really good if you guys made up and became friends again, because you guys are, in fact, best friends.

Do you think he likes you more than a friend too? Then you should tell him.

Actually, you should tell him anyway (unless it will become awkward between you guys), and maybe he will start liking you as well. Or if he doesn't, he's still your best friend and don't let your friendship get ruined. Because if he's your best friend, she should accept your feelings.

This kind of situation happened to me too. I told my guy friend that I liked him. It wasn't awkward though.. Until.. he started liking my best friend.. But that's another story.. :D

Sorry for the essay ;D

Good luck!
