 Depending on how much you want to spend i would say a nice shirt, a bottle of aftershave, a dvd, or a cd. If you really can't think of anything to buy alot of record and clothes shops do gift vouchers so he can go and choose anything he likes.

 Guys aren't that picky about birthday presents from girlfriends. Even if you get him something small relating to what he likes, he'll see that you were listening to him when he talked to you. Also, anything that makes him laugh is fun... I don't know if you have a place like Spencer's Gifts, or a hobby shop, but try something that will make you guys laugh together...
