Hey I'm Tia!!! I'm 18 years old and I'm very sad/depressed!!!! I feel soooo stupid!!!! I'm trying to get my GED and I've been tryin for almost a year now. I wanna give up soooo bad! I'm tired of goin up to that school and not goin anywhere. I made it all the way to the 12th grade and I knew I wasn't goin to graduate on time so I join this program at school praying and hoping I would get my GED! I didn't!! I feel sooo stupid!!! I'm cryin non stop.

No one understands me becuz all of my friends are in college and I would love to start college. But I'm just so tired! I went up to the school to pay to retake the test and the told me I have to wait until Aug!!! That's sooo far to me since I keep trying. I feel like I'm not to meant to be anythin or have my GED. Everybody keeps askin me when I'm gonna start school and I have nothin to say and that just kills me. I only need to retake the math part on the GED test. But I'm spending money like crazy. Its 20$ there and back from the school and I've been goin up there for a year. I don't kn what else to do. I can't tell my parents becuz their gonna talk down at me and say I should have stayed in school. I just wish things would work out for me sometimes. I wanna give up soo bad. 70 percent wanna give up.

My parents told me I couldn't do it... so did my friends. Now I'm making bank in a career that I am so happy in. Just stick with it. There are tons of programs on and off line that will get you through quickly and easily, not to mention a ton of jobs (minimum wage even) that will pay for you to get it. Best wishes to you. Keep up the good work. The will is EVERYTHING.

Hi there,

Don't worry, just keep at it, this is just a slump and you'll pass by it soon. I was in the same slump as you at the end of my highschool career, and it was doubly bad for me becuase I was in a group of friends who happened to all have been accepted first choice to various science/math/engineering programs. Talk about a self-esteem killer! I eventually pulled myself out of it and realized there's nothing that subsitutes hard work and a mentality to 'keep going'.

Like I said, just keep at it, and don't give up, because this is just one trial in your life. Unfortunately, you will keep getting trials thrown at you in life, and if you give up now, it doesn't say much about you does it?

And anyway, August is NOT that far off, so in the meantime, the best advice is to buckle down, study like hell, don't party or go out too much, and just tough it out. You won't regret it. What's one month right?

Now for this part I'm speaking in generalities [sorry], but generally speaking, I think the best part about living in a developed country is the gift of education and society's recognition of hard work.

If you want to go to college, the only barrier is hard work, and that's not such a bad barrier afterall [aside from money, of course, but again, nothing a little time-management and more hard work that won't fix].

There's nothing wrong with taking a little more time to get your GED than your friends. Keep at it and you'll do fine.

Best of luck!

Well. Not everybody is cut out for the school experience. Some people have success in life because they have drive and determination. Do you have any of those traits? If you lack ambition and basic intelligence then unfortunately you may not amount to much in life. Did you know that medis mogul Ted Turner of TBS, TNT, etc.. didn't graduate from college? He was expelled, but he went on to become a billionaire. He had drive and ambition, but no dentist.

Sorry to say, but everyone in life is not entitled to a house with a white picket fence, a dog, and 2 1/2 kids. For some people life will suck. It will suck less if you try and stop giving up. Now you can let life suck or you can stand up and make something of yourself.
