Why is it that people seem to practice safe penetrative sex on porn sites, but not safe oral sex?

A male United Kingdom age 51-59, *iggG writes:

Me and my pals were in the pub the other day and the subject of safe sex came up(we r all married and well into our forties and apparently std's are on the rise for age group). Why is it that on many porn sites, swinging sites people seem to practice safe penetrative sex but not oral? Many women seem totally at ease sucking an unprotected cock, why is that? Surely there is as much risk blowing a man/plating a woman and all of us were stumped as to why. Be nice to give my mates an answer when I see them later

Regards. G.

PerhapsNot agony auntHonestly, I think it all boils down to ignorance. Most sex education classes don't really teach about oral, they just focus on the "traditional" sex. Oral seems to be a taboo topic in the educational system as well as with the parents. Again, how many parents will include oral sex when they have "The Talk" with their kids? Mine certainly didn't and most definitely not anal. There is a disturbing lack of information on both oral, anal as well as regular sex from the parents and in schools. And I suppose most people are not curious enough to look up information online, or they think they have it all figured out.

Many sexually transmitted diseases can still be contracted orally. I have known people become ill with various things picked up during oral sex. It stumps me too as to why many people dont practice totally safe sex.

person12345 agony auntMost porn (more than 90%) doesn't use condoms for penetration, even for multiple penetrations or anal sex. I'm not sure where you get the idea most does. Maybe on swinging sites, but most does not. Watching porn has been found to be a risk factor in not using condoms for vaginal sex, even more so for anal sex, especially among adolescents.

Oral sex without a condom is not as much of a risk in catching STDs as penetration is. The biggest risk is in being exposed to HPV, which has been linked to some cancers in the mouth and throat. For the fluid based (rather than skin on skin) diseases you'd really need to have cuts in your mouth to catch them, but if you had say, braces or a sore, you'd probably be at risk.
