Why Did She Lose so Much Weight in Such a Short Time?

Is this really something that can happen?

My girlfriend has had the hardest week with a project that she was given by her company, i've never seen her that stressed before! But what was interesting is we live together and not once did I see her eat! No food was touched at all in this week and somehow she was still managing some energy to go to her cardio class in the evenings, how i don't know?

The problem is, because she was doing a cardio class every night last week and because of the stress she didn't eat once! So i reckon that's why she lost weight quickly. It wasn't until the other night we saw what effect it had on her because she came in and said "Rhys, look how thin i've gotten. I've lost so much weight!". She wasn't happy with it at all, but myself and her can't understand how did she manage to loose so much weight in just a week!!

Sure, i can understand loosing a bit. But she's definitely gotten thinner and lost a lot of weight in a very short time, i mean one week! It seems dangerous in fact. Do you think it was possible the weight loss was down to her not eating and still doing her cardio classes?

Hi

I think she wrote on this website about losing weight through stress and she thought her BF was now repulsed by the fact that she was a thin person. I would recommend you talk to her and ensure that she looks after her self.

Daisy_Daisy agony auntI'm surprised she had the energy to go to cardio classes on a totally empty stomach. Maybe she snacked during the day.

But yes, I've lost a lot of weight quickly when I've been very stressed (my stomach goes into a knot and I can only nibble) and because I cycle to work and back, the weight drops off.

I'm sure she'll be fine and put weight on when she's less stressed. If she really doesn't like how much weight she's lost, she'll have to cut back on the cardio and force herself to eat more. Even just a banana or toast.

R1 agony auntYes is possible and also very unhealthy, you should discourage her from exercising when she hasn't eaten and definitely try to get her to eat, you wouldn't want her to faint.

If she doesn't eat and still exercises, yes she can lose a lot of weight. No it is not 'safe.'

If she is also taking stimulants she could end up in the hospital.

I lose a lot of weight quickly if I am nervous or anxious or stressed. It is like my metabolism speeds up from the adrenalin. I am not sure, but I could loose quite a lot quickly. And it is not safe, her body can start to eat itself. There is a lot of info on the internet about it.

Yeah it's possible. I mean what are we talking? Like 5 or 7 lbs? That's possible. 20 lbs in just one week, however, not so much. What might have probably happened was she had already started losing weight weeks before that and you finally just noticed it this week.

At your age your metabolism is very fast so weight loss can happen quickly. Especially if you are exercising alot and eating very little.

I used to do a lot of crash dieting so I know firsthand. The one thing I would advise her to be careful of (apart from the obvious, that she needs to eat and stay nourished) is when you lose weight too quickly, your body shrinks but sometimes your skin's elasticity doesn't rebound as quickly. The skin could look a little saggy cause it hasn't caught up yet to the shrunken body. All women want healthy, supple looking skin.

So tell her to stay hydrated and EAT lots of fruit and veggies and protein and slow down the weight loss, that will keep her skin looking supple and will keep the skin to fat ratio balanced.

So_Very_Confused agony auntyou did not see her eat... that does not mean she did not eat when not with you.... I know my hubby thinks I don't eat because there are nights I do not eat at home.

and yes if I didn't eat at all for a week and also got dehydrated I could probably drop 5-7 pounds in a week...

but i eat A LOT OF JUNK.... so it also will depend on what she is eating normally.
