She had complete control of how far in it went and how fast. The only problem for me was controlling myself and not thrusting upwards. Somehow I managed to let her do all the thrusting until she was comfortable with how things were progressing.  Wow, if only there were more sensible couples out there like you two ~ then again, there would be a lot less for us aunties to do.
Ideally the best position to start with would be the missionary, him on top of you....that way, at least ~ you'll have full body and eye contact and you'll be able to kiss, which will help with the arousal.
Master that...then you be well on your way to try out as many different positions as you want.
