I think you should start by dropping subtle hints about your romantic inclinations. Get into a little chat someday about flings and crushes. You might wanna figure out what's in his heart before you declare your feelings. Find out if he likes someone or not. Wont be too difficult cz you are friends. But don't stretch all this beyond a point. Sometimes we end up wasting too much time having said too little. When you do confess, don't go overboard. After all, young guys are easy to scare. Don't be too flippant either. We're trying to play safe just so you guys still can maintain your friendship in the worst case scenario.All the best :)

Tell your friend in private, see what he says, you never know, you may be shocked by the answer.
You won't be embarrased because no one else will know (unless you decide to tell someone).
