A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I'm 15 years old 16 in a month, my boyfriend is 20. We had sex when he was 19. I got pregnant but he's been by my side through it all, my parents knew his age and never complained. Until recently when we told them that he will soon be getting a place of his own and that me and our 2 month old baby want to live with him they said they would get the law involved. I'm not comfortable here and there's alot of screaming and drama and I do not want to raise my baby in this house, and the father lives an hour away and does not get to see his son as much as he would like. What could they legally do although my boyfriend is supportive and they didn't charge him before?

adamantine agony auntWell he can be charged with statutory rape. You had sex with him, and I assume it was consensual to you, but in the eyes of the law, when an adult (person over 18) has sex with a minor (person under 18), the minor is not capable of actually giving consent. It is seen as taking advantage of the minor. SO yeah its pretty serious, he could go to jail and then be listed as a registered sex offender.

Well, they could certainly charge him now, and he could have to be on the sex offender registry for being a "pedophile." It's a really sad situation. Try talking to your parents about why you're wanting to move, show that you're responsible, and ask them why they are so angry about it. Maybe if you can fully clarify their opinion on it, you can come up with a compromise.
