What can I do to make sure I stay awake for Valentines Day?

A male United States age 30-35, *rym writes:

Here's my dilemna. I NEED TO STAY AWAKE FOR VALENTINES. I'm a nocturnal creature. I work the graveyard shift and sleep all day. My girlfriend is the complete opposite. She has a regular 9 to 5 and she's in bed by ten.

For valentines I have made about a dozen reservations. All spanning from the time of 12 to 9 pm, exactly on my daily bedtime. So you understand my problem?

I need to stay awake for valentines day. I've already taken a sleeping pill for today so that I can get at least 12 hours of sleep in hopes of staying up for the next 24 hours.

I was also wondering just in case that plan caves, is there any type of energy drink or pill that can help me to stay awake? Oh, this part is also important. My girfriend and I have decided to have sex for the first time on the night of valentines to top off the day. I know, lame. Is there anything I can take that won't affect me, sexually?

LovieYourMine agony auntAw that is so sweet of you to be considerate like that. Well usually from what ive noticed, not that im totally experienced but from what i have noticed sexual intercourse is a good way to stay awake once things get going. BUT you still, im sure would like to be able to spend time together. Theres caffine, keep moving, listen to enjoyable music. I dont think energy drinks are ok since there is so much sugar in them and you will probably be tired more later. Just get a good night sleep if you can before tomorrow ok!? Good luck sweetie, have fun and be safe!

Daisy_Daisy agony auntWill you get a chance to have a nap if you really feel like you're going to conk out? If so, just have a 15-20 minute nap (no longer or you'll go into deep sleep and wake up feeling worse) and some caffeine.

So_Very_Confused agony auntCoffee does not do it for me... sometimes strongly brewed Ice tea will keep me up....

you are young... you should be able to miss a few hours of sleep....

you are totally correct that having sex for the first time on valentines day is lame... and i warn you that it will probably suck... especially if you are both virgins..

I doubt you will have problem staying up unless you have a sleep disorder...

even my 39 year old husband can stay up one night without sleep and be functional...

Coffee. Regular, not decaf. Do not use a whole bunch of sugar or you can crash off of the sugar.

Don't forget condoms.
