What are the effects of having an implant on an unborn child?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I am going to the hospital tomorrow to have an implant inserted, however, I have been being really paranoid about being pregnant.

My problem is.. I've not had unprotected sex and my boyfriend has never ejaculated anywhere near me without protection.. but i'm almost positive i've had pre-cum on my hands and i fear it may have gotten near my vagina. My periods are ALWAYS irregular and all over the place. Every little bit of weight, diet, sleeping fluctuation in my life makes me miss one or come on really late and even the tiniest bit of stress will make me miss one completely and I am currently ten days late... normally I wouldn't be worried but now i am.

I don't want to sound stupid by asking the clinic to do a pregnancy test first when I've not had sex, I'm not even sure if it's likely that I could be pregnant and I definitely don't know what the effects of having an implant would be on an unborn child. I just don't know what to do or think.. any advice would be handy. thanks.

Tisha-1 agony auntStupid is not asking the right questions at the clinic--stupid is not discussing your concerns with the staff there. Smart is telling them your concerns and not keeping mum about your sex life!

They are there to help you--make sure they have all the information you know is important!
