i was drunk and i dunno if i had sex or not but afterwards it hurt a lot when i urinated and it's been like this four about 3 days so far, i also feel very ill almost like i have a terrible hangover, it's too late for me to take the morning after pill, is there any other pill i can take 3 days after i've had sex?

A female reader, janet +, writes (3 June 2006):

It is possible to be pregnant even when you ahve a period. in some women the period does not stop until you are a month or so pregnent so i would get yourself checked and by the way i think you can still take the morning after pill up to 72 hours after intercourse. even if your boyfriend tryed to pull out he will still have leaked some sperm before he pulled out so this is another reason to get checked. you should remember that you really must use protection and if you are having sex you may want to concider going on to the pill or something like that. i know you are young and that you do not to be a mother yet you have all you lives to have kids so think long and hard about what you do from here and please use protection next time.

matron agony auntHi, it is possible but doubtful, either way get yourself to the doctors and get tested. I'm not going to lecture you about under age sex because you are fully aware of the fact, but try to think in the long term, do you want to end up with a baby?you must have things you want to do with your life, plans for your future and i shouldn't think a baby is in the near future plans you have made. I sincerely hope you are not pregnant, and if not, use the scare you've had to remind you of how you nearly ruined your life. Have fun but leave out the full on sex, you have so much life to live, go out there girl and live it.x

I do not want to sound like a nagging adult but you are too young to be having sex. If you are not emotionaly and financially ready for a baby then you should not be having sex.

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (3 June 2006):

DrPsych agony auntYes, there is a chance of pregnancy at any time of the month when you don't use contraception. Having a period doesn't prevent pregnancy as sperm are nifty little fella's and hang around in the body for several days. It is normal for your periods to be irregular at 15. What's more, withdrawal is not a safe contraceptive technique because men lose sperm prior to their ejaculation, and are less experienced of knowing their own bodies at 15. As you already know, the limit for the contraceptive emergency pill is 72 hours but there is an alternative safeguard - you can have a special kind of coil fitted up to 5 days after sex occurred that prevents pregnancy (not 100% but better than nothing!). It can be fitted during a period but not during the heavy days. Nurses at your local family planning clinic can do it, but it may require parental consent (depending on the local laws where you happen to be).
