Also im wanting to go on the pill, is there a specific time that i need to start the pill because i am under the impression that i should start the first day i get my period. Please can someone clarify the above.

thatis correct. your time of ovulation can alter your likelihood of pregnancy. also, yes you are asked to start taking the pill on the first day of your period so that your cycle lines up with the pill cycle

Start your pill for the first time on the first day of your period.Take one pill at around the same time each day for 21 days. After this 21 days you will have finished your packet so have a break for seven days to allow your period to come. After seven days begin your next packet as before.

If you wish to skip a period then start your next pill packet on the 22 day and continue on as normal.

It is best to take precautions for seven days if you miss a pill, are on anti-biotics, or have sickness. But you should always use a condom whilst on the pill.

Mistify agony auntLook - if you are unsure, it would be best to do it as soon as possible. A home pregnancy test cost around R50, so just do it.

I got my period (full-on) for 3 months into my pregnancy...

If you have any doubts, just take the test...

Hi

Do you think i should wait until the end of the month? I feel as though i am going to get my period soon (again). What do you suggest?

A female reader, Mistify South Africa +, writes (20 November 2007):

Mistify agony auntIt is very unlikely that you will fall pregnant if you took the morning after pill, however, NOT impossible.

Your period might just be a bit messed up because of the morning after pill - remember - it is all about hormones.

Why don't you just do a home pregnancy test JUST to be safe? And, if you are still worried, go to the doctor.

Good luck - let us know what the results are.

Hi

Thank you for these answers. The reason i posted thid question was because my bf and i had sex and the condom bust! I took the morning after pill( 2 pills after 14 hours and the other 2 pills in the next 12 hours) but i am still afraid that i may be pregnant. I have gotten my period twice but the second time it was very light.

What do you think?

A female reader, MonDoc Australia +, writes (15 November 2007):

Your ovulation will vary depending on your cycle length... generally. You have to view ovulation as the epicentre to conception.

Sperm can live for up to 5 days, so you're in the "danger" zone for 5 days prior to your ovulation.

Then, the egg remains viable for generally up to 24 hours after ovulation, so you're "danger" zone extends for really 6 days or so... again, it's dependent on your particular cycle.

You can download a free ovulation calendar at www.ovulation-calendar.net which guides your ovulation by the information you put in & gives dates (without guarantees!!) that you're most/least likely to fall pregnant....it'll demonstrate the process I've explained (above).

In regards to the pill, (as Mistify explained), you start with the sugar pills whilst on your period and continue from there on. A couple of warnings re the pill:

1] You should go at least one whole cycle on the pill before having unprotected sex... i.e. it's most effective / guaranteed in the 2nd month onwards.

2] Be sure to take it around the same time each day.

3] Don't skip / forget the pill.

4] Some antibiotics can affect its effectiveness

5] If you vomit or have diarrhoea shortly after ingesting your pill, it won't have had time to take effect.

6] Smoking on the pill can increase your risk of stroke and cause other complications.

7] The pill can affect your weight, mood & libido.

Your doctor should explain all the risks & effects when you seek to go on the pill.

A female reader, Mistify South Africa +, writes (15 November 2007):

Mistify agony auntFirstly, good on you for wanting to take precaution. VERY wise move, especially in our country.

Then, you are correct about how to start taking the pill.

You need to start in the silver area, on the first day of your period (on the marked day, i.e. Monday, Tuesday etc etc)

Then, yes, you are more likely to fall pregnant when you are ovulating.

You can estimate that this is around 2 weeks BEFORE your period starts, but if you want to be totally sure, you would need to get an ovulation test. Also, you are not only able to conceive on those 2 or 3 days, but also 2 or 3 days before ovulation.

Hope this helps.

Why not go to your local clinic and find out... They have a lot of people who can help...

Good luck, and stay safe.
