 If she has a brother you may be able to ask for his. My lesbian neighbours used one of their brother’s sperm, so the child still has both of their DNA. This is also helpful in case of future medical issues, both of them can be donors, etc. (At least, that's how it worked out for them.)

 Speak this over with your Doctor these things are not all cut and dried and a lot of things have to be taken into account before you get the go ahead to do so, it will also protect you legally and you will have all the written paperwork that will ensure it all runs smoothly.

 Would a friend situation not end up with paternal rights issues? Because strictly speaking he's the Dad. It sounds complicated, whereas a proper clinic is regulated and you are protected in that respect.
