There are a million on the net and I don't want to end up with something shoddy. Plus, any other advice on how to make the evening special aside from candles and making a nice meal?

karinana is verified as being by the original poster of the question Thanks for the chocolate body paint idea! Have you used it? Is it messy? I've always heard that whipped cream is more off a mess than its worth.
I think I'll steer clear of the rose petals, not quite our style. And Victoria's Secret has always been a bit tame for my taste, there is a Fredrick's nearby though I'll be sure to check.

What about Victoria's Secret or Frederick's of Hollywood?
You could write him a letter that lets him know how much he means to you. May sound cheesy, but I'm sure he'd love it.
You could also do something that you two used to do a lot - go to a special restaurant or a place where you two used to go out on a lot of dates together.
Has he mentioned missing anything since he's been gone? Maybe think about that and try to remember if there's anywhere special he wants to go. (Or you could just ask him if you aren't trying to keep it a surprise.)
