Scared I might be pregnant though I had my periods after a dry-humping session.

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

A little over a month ago, my boyfriend and I dry humped. He was naked and I had on panties. Three days later my period came on the day it was supposed to, but it was on and off. The next month my period came three earlier and it was on and off. From the time I dry humped to now I have been feeling some pregnancy symptoms. Backaches, alternating abdominal cramps, headaches. And recently I've been getting throbbing in my left breast, dull pains in my chest, acid in my throat, and my belly button hurts from the inside. A few about two weeks ago, I took a clinic test from my pediatric and it came out negative. This week I took a home pregnancy test, it can out negative. I talked to my doctor about and she says it might be stress, but no matter times I try to put the thought of being pregnant out my mind the symptoms I'm feeling get a little worse. Could someone please tell me what's going on with me? I have less than two days until I pack up to go to college and it might be too late to do anything if I'm pregnant. I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi sweetie, you really really are NOT pregnant. It sounds like this is just stress, but if you did not have penetrative sex, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. If you kept your panties on, and he didnt put his fingers in you when he had cum on them its almost impossible. Now that you have had a few periods AND taken 2 negative pregnancy tests, you really can stop worrying. By thinking you are pregnant and stressing about it, you can give yourself the symptoms you would expect to have.... some people call it a phantom pregnancy....

Try to just relax and ignore it, or if it makes you feel better go back to your doctor and explain the signs you are having, but dont metion that you think you mihgt me pregnant, and see what other diagnoses they can come up with that might be causing your signs! Good luck wiht everything!

A female reader, BettyBoup United Kingdom +, writes (13 August 2010):

BettyBoup agony auntYou can only get pregnant if some of a man's seman gets into your vagina. Unless he came on your panties and it soaked through and got up into your vagina, it is not possible to get pregnant from dry humping. I would say that if you have taken a home pregnancy test and a clinical test and both have come back negative, then you are not pregnant.

What I will say is that it is possible to convince yourself that you are pregnant. You can experience symptoms, such as nausea, cramps, aches and pains etc, from simply believeing that you could be pregnant. I have experienced this seveal times, when I've been having regular sex and my period was late due to contraception. I had nausea and was almost convinced I could be pregnant, until I did a test or had my period.

The mind is an amazingly powerful thing. If your mind is convinced you could be pregnant it can trick your body into having symptoms. Its called a psychosomatic reaction.

In extreme cases, a woman can have all the symptoms of pregnancy, including an extended belly, without actually having a baby inside. This is called a phantom pregnancy. Google it, it's quite interesting. I believe this is linked to the desire to be loved, wanting to be pregnant and really believing it. Perhaps you need to spend a bit of time working on self love.

If I were you, I would take the advice of a trained medical professional. They know what they are talking about generally. If you have had more than one test and all are negative, coupled with the fact you didn't have full penetrative sex, where he came inside you, it is very, very unlikely you are pregnant.

I would try to get on with your life. As a woman, you will have to go through many, many pregnancy scares in your life. Once you start having regular sex with a partner, there will be a chance every month, and you will wonder until you have your period. It is just something you have to get used to.

If you are still not convinced and still have niggling concerns that you are pregnant, take another test a month down the line just to be sure.

Good luck.

A female reader, LisaSE Canada +, writes (13 August 2010):

LisaSE agony auntBy a month later, if you were pregnant, you'd be getting positives. And two periods? :S If you have had ANY period (that is a flow of blood even if only a little and not just spotting), it means what little blood you had lining your uterus is gone now and, if you were pregnant, your body needs that blood to nourish the growing child.

But that's all besides the point. I think your getting the mistakes of dry humping confused with the pullout method... *blushes* If you dry hump, even naked, it is VERY, VERY, VERY hard for a sperm to make the trip inside from outside the vagina. Then, there's the fact you had a barrier. The pullout method, however, is where people make mistakes: even though a man doesn't ejaculate inside of you, there is a little bit of pre-ejaculation secreted that has enough sperm to "get you in trouble".

Your doctor said you're fine, two pregnancy tests said you're fine and two periods say you're fine. I would consider worrying that you might have a stomach virus or something! It's probably a flu! The flu can cause aches and pains, headaches, upset stomach and a lot more! Plus, there is something called a "Placebo Effect" :) If you think you might have something, the tiniest thing reflects this disease's symptoms. For example, you have a frog in your throat after sleeping in front of a fan, on your back, with your mouth open and you snore, but your school had a STREP throat outbreak, so you start freaking out for nothing which makes the symptom worse! Placebo effect.

If you want to be 100% sure, go to a free clinic and ask! The doctors will tell you the same thing. Then, if I may suggest, go to your local school board and tell them this ENTIRE story from start to finish including using this site. Then, remind them that not long ago, this used to be taught IN CLASS! :S Stupid school systems :D Then, suggest they reorganize their priorities in the curriculum. :D

A male reader, Kenj United Kingdom +, writes (13 August 2010):

Kenj agony auntI would listen to your doctor. If both tests are negitive then its very unlikley your pregnant.

There is a condition called Phantom Pregnancy where if you think your pregnant you will experience symptoms of it but its very rare.

Also stress can cause a lot of symptoms and should not be taken lightley. It can increase heart rate which will cause a lot of the symptoms you are describing.
