First, you have to know that women can be "vaginal" or "clitorideal" depending on how they reach orgasm.
If you say that rubbing is more pleasurable it's because you're "clitorideal". But you don't have to worry about it. Fingering can be not pleasurable when you first try it, it can also be quite painful, but there's nothing wrong with that.
I don't know if you have had regular sex yet, but if you haven't, tell your first partner that you're gonna need some foreplay because you may not be able to reach orgasm with penetration only. (And I also let you know that you probably won't reach orgasm the first time you have sex.)
As for how to know if you're orgasaming... I can't help you with this... The only thing I can say is that you'll know it when you're orgasaming!
