Question - (13 May 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 13 May 2010)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Okay so, i'm kind of freaking out and I have a couple questions.

Back in December, my mother caught me and my boyfriend of a year, having sex. She blew up and went crazy and was not very happy about it at all. Well, I told her I wouldn't be doing anything anymore.

However, I have. I'm on birth control and my gyno won't refill it for me until I come in to see him(Yes, it's a he.) Well, my appointment is on Monday and my boyfriend will be here this weekend, we always have sex when he is here.

My questions are:

1. Does a pap test hurt?

2. I don;t really want my mom finding out that i've still been having sex, so, if I Don't have sex 48 hours prior to the appointment, and I tell him the last time I had sex was December, there's no way he can tell right?

3. I think i'm about to start my period-If I start before the appointment, can he still do the pap test?

Any answers are appreciated! Thanks(:

A female reader, TasteofIndia United States +, writes (13 May 2010):

TasteofIndia agony aunt1) Not really. They can be uncomfortable, but they don't HURT. If it does hurt, tell your gyno and they'll adjust what they're doing.

2) What you tell your Doctor should be absolutely confidential. You can make sure, and say - "hey, this is all confidential, right?", but you should DEFINITELY tell him that you've been having sex so that he can check for things regarding sexual activity. Don't fret!

3) Yes, he can still do the pap smear. He deals with vaginas as a career, I'm sure he's dealt with plenty of periods.

Don't worry about your Doctor. You need to be honest with him, if you really want to make sure that you're healthy. Just put your mind at ease and ask him, the nurse or receptionist if everything is confidential. Good luck, sweetness!
