A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

in my past, present, and probably future relationships i have never liked using a condom.

i dont know if its just me, the brand, or what. i think that smell like plastic, ranted they are, but still not a turn on.

they inhibit my..pleasure. to such a point where if im using a condom, than im most definitely not climaxing.

now im asking as a man in distress, what are some ways to get over these problems, or even solve them? because i know that condoms the way to go more or less..i just cant stand them.

EbonyBlossom agony auntLoads of guys hate using condoms, that's normal. Try using extra thin or flavoured or ribded/dotted condoms for a different feeling/smell.

Condoms are the only protection against STDs, but they are only 95% effective against pregnancy as they can rip/come off inside. If you have a girlfriend, then both get checked and then maybe she can go on the pill.

The last thing you want is a baby in your hands and a guilty conscience. Trust me. Wear a condom. Try out non-latex - they're much better.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 May 2010):

seriously, do not give up the condoms. its frustrating when you can climax through sex, admitedly. but no where near as frustrating as an unwanted kid. think about it.

try different condoms, ribbed condoms maybe? tingle sensation condoms? there are a few different ones that are supposed to enhance pleasure. pop down to boots, or even ann summers! they do some stuff in there. different things work for everyone.

if/when you next get into a sexual relationship, ask the person you are with to go onto a contraceptive pill, such as microgynon 30 or Yasmine. they are pretty effective, ive heard alot of different numbers but most people say theyre about 99% effective. much the same as a condom really. my doctor told me there was no need to use condoms if i was on the pill. so thats an option for the future.

as for casual sex with randomers (if youre that sort of person) i would say stick to using condoms, just try different brands, non latex or ribbed etc.. try anything. be open minded. as long as it works it cant do you any harm. just make sure you use one. better than an STD or crying baby, just as CaringGuy said.

Myau agony auntI know exactly what you mean, I just hate condoms...takes all the feeling away and they feel gross.

You need to experiment with different ones, there are extra thin ones that you could try that should make a difference

A male reader, anonymous, writes (17 May 2010):

Try the non-latex "thin" kind. Maybe include some more lubricant as well. Something like the Durex Avanti Bare, Lifestyles Skyn, or the Trojan Supra should do the trick. I've personally used the Durex Avanti Bare, and they are great. Only downside is that they are a bit more money versus a regular latex condom, but they're worth it.

Try the non latex ones and see if they make a difference. But don't give them up, for God's sake. A crying baby or an STD is not something you want.

A male reader, bruce lee Nigeria +, writes (17 May 2010):

bruce lee agony auntDo they make your penis itch? Or is it just the smell? I don't like them much either but it's better to be safe than sorry. By the way, don't you also find it really embarrassing having to buy them? I hate that as well.

I guess some things in life, we don't like, but we just have to put up with it.
