My boyfriend's and mine anniversary is coming up soon. We live together but all our spare cash is going to saving up to buy a place, so we tend to live on a tight budget. I told him I would be happy with a night in with a DVD, but I want to actually surprise him with something special.

Does anyone have any good ideas on something we can do or a gift I can make him on a budget?

The best anniversary present I ever got was when my bf sent me on a clue hunt. He wrote little notes from the perspective of all our pets and put them in special places in town that we had been (restaurants, etc), just taped under posts and stuff. And each clue pointed to the next destination. At the end, he was at a restaurant waiting for me. But if you're on a budget, the end can be anywhere, or anything. Back at home with a home-cooked meal. Or by the water with a picnic. I just loved the effort he went to and I kept the cute clues. It was special and fun.

Depending on the weather where you live, doing something outdoors is fun. For a special date my boyfriend and I bought a really fun collage photoframe. Then we took a hike in the park and took tons of pictures of trees and nature. It was so much fun to let our creative juices flow, and we shared lots of converstaion about things that we normally don't think about. We had a picnic too. When we got home we sorted through the pics and chose our favorites. We photoshopped them to make them black and white, sephia, etc then filled the frame with them. It made a wonderful memory and was a great way to bond.

Happy anniversary!

One of the surprises my boyfriend likes best is a decent cigar...even if he's not a cigarette smoker, they make great presents!! they're not as addictive as cigarettes and they smell nice..you can get a decent one for between 20 and 30 dollars..

I would surprise him in a way that makes him feel really loved. In general, there are five different ways to make someone feel loves:

1. physical

2. time

3. service

4. words

5. gifts

If he loves being physical (hugging, cuddling, kissing, etc.), then surprise him with a full evening of this. If he loves that you give him words, write him a very loving note or card.

It's so great that you care about your boyfriend. In the end, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm guessing he cares a lot about you too, and he will be grateful no matter what you guys do on your anniversary.

When I want to surprise my girlfriend, but while I'm on a budget, I cook a gourmet meal for her and have a candlelight dinner. In the end it costs only the price of food, but she really appreciates the effort I put into the meal. You can find some great recipes online that won't cost too much to prepare. If you want to throw in something a little extra, there are also many sparkling wines that taste great and cost less than $15.

Not sure if this helps any, but I wish you good luck!
