We're saving to buy a house, what things can we do on a budget?

My boyfriend and I live together at his parents house, we are saving up to buy a place together so money is a bit tight. Does anyone have any ideas on things that we can do on the cheap to get us out of the house? We both enjoy a night in with a DVD and a cheap takeaway but you can't do that all the time :)

A reader, anonymous, writes (11 April 2010):

My girlfriend and I do a lot of things that cost little money. Here's some things we enjoy:

-Have a picnic in a park/at a beach (bring a frisbee!)

-Take a walk around the city. We're always surprised at the things we find but we didn't know existed!

-Go to a public place (like a mall) and just watch other people

-Hop in a car, just start driving, and stop when we see something interesting. (If you live near a city with a great train system, hop on a train and get off at a station/area you no little about and explore)

-Go to a public zoo/museum/concert
