My boyfriend of 9 months has never met them so doesnt know them, hes off doing biking anyway this weekend so wouldnt have come down.  Sounds like a normal joke to me. That's the sort of thing a guy would say only if he's really secure in the relationship and understands that nothing is going to happen with the gay dudes.
Most straight guys understand how that works more than women really know. If he was having a problem with it, he would have tried to convince you not to go. Unless you get back home and he immediately dumps you, he's fine and it was just a joke. Best response is a joke right back. You know your boyfriend's sense of humor better than I do, try and relate the threesome to an inside joke of yours.

 I would say it is a joke, nothing more! If you are going to reply, just say something like "haha, your such a joker". Or dont reply at all, it wont really matter if you dont to be honest.
Many straight men cant really get their head's around gay relationships, and when they know women who have gay friends they always think there is an alterior motive there, and that the gay friend will try it on with the woman. Now they know this is just a silly idea so they dont truly believe it, however they will still joke about (as your boyfriend has done).
It doesnt mean anything, he trusts you and obviously knows nothing would happen but purely because of the straight male mentality where they lack understanding about gay men, they will make stupid jokes like this one about it.
