 Forget for a sec about friends and family- last time YOU weren't happy either, because of the distance, apparently a LDR was not working for you ( which does not surprise me, since I think that at your age you don't have the time, means and freedom to meet in person reasonably often, and without that no LDR has any point or chance to survive ). And this led to a break up.
Now, if you restart the relationship, and the general circumstamces haven't changed- why do you think now it should go in a different way from before ?

My gut instinct says to not try keep others around you happy, do what your heart wants because you will only live a miserable life if your run it by keeping everyone else happy.
