I would say that he is probably pretty nervous himself and is debating over what to say himself. As long as you listen to what he says then you can't go wrong. The conversation should just flow naturally. One topic will lead to another. Ask him questions about himself. Everyone loves talking about themselves because it is something they know a lot about!!!
Try to calm down and realise that he is probably just as nervous as you.
