My boyfriend will be moving to Florida and I'm worried about the girls and the environment there

Does anyone know what the area near Tampa Bay in Florida is like? My boyfriend is going to the university near there for 3yrs. I seem to have an image in my head that all the girls are supermodel looking and walking around in micro bikinis and are easy as hell. I mean, I know Spring Break is like a massive drug fueled sex party get together.

We have been together for 3yrs. Maybe see each other once a year because cant afford the flights. Dont misunderstand my question because I am not at all a jealous person. I fully support him going there and encourage him to do so as I know he has been wanted to study in America since long before he met me. I am just aware too how different it will be there. I know America will change him too because it is so different. Maybe he may even change into someone I no longer want to be with. And hey if he cheats then he does. Time will tell and I am not worrying. Things happens for a reason so what will be, will be.

I am just mainly curious about what it is like there and if the picture in my head is real. Because I have never been there.

Thanks

Did you post before? Your post sounds very familiar, the only difference is that location changed a bit, first it was South Beach, but the rest is very similar: easy girls, partying, your model boyfriend, girls hanging on him and so on.

Anyway, I will answer : your problem are not the girls in skimpy bikinis, but your model boyfriend. If he chooses to sleep around he will no matter what unless you put him in a village with youngest woman over 70.

Spring breakers actually come from all parts of US and other countries, they are not local. In fact locals don't even do that partying for a week because they have seen enough of it. Though party scene is huge in Florida because of the climate, people, even girls in skimpy bikinis have to work, and some study. What you see during the week are mostly tourists who come for a few days and go, who are on vacation and can get drunk every night.

Locals don't go partying in that extent for obvious reasons, it's the work day tomorrow.

Hope you are not really thinking that in Florida every girl is beatifull and model looking? They are the same as everywhere else, some more beatifull than others. What do you think, Florida accepts only beatifull people?

Why did your boyfriend choose to go to this particular place to study, if he knew that it would be so far away from you and that you'd only see each other once a year? There are loads of other places to study...I'm a bit confused as to why, if you two are really a couple, you didn't work as a team to sort this one out BEFORE it even got to the stage of him applying for a place there..? This just is not the kind of decision that couples would usually make if they want a future together and are prioritising the relationship. Also, even if he really does have to study there and only there, why were no plans made for you to go with him?

What a coincidence that I came upon this, I actually live in Tampa!

Well Tampa is a pretty normal place in my opinion. It is not sprawling with half naked "easy" girls. There are some girls like that here, just as many as there are in ANY state.

If your boyfriend is going to cheat on you, he will cheat on you no matter where he is. You HAVE to trust him to have a healthy relationship with him.

Long distance relationships require even more trust than other relationships do. If he loves you and is trustworthy, try not to worry too much.

++++++++ I AM THE ORIGINAL POSTER AGAIN LOL +++++++

In response to one of my other posters. It is not that I think very little of American women. Far from it.

But you see, I have lived in NYC with my bf before. He is a model and his agent sent him to over there one summer. And he bought my ticket for me to stay with him there for 3mths and his agent was paying for his apartment and a few other expenses so it wasn't as expensive. But now as he is now going on a student visa he has to pay for his own flights, apartment etc hence why we cant afford the costs as before. We have been together in the SAME country and have lived together (we dont live together anymore but see each other 3 or 4 times a week) and we been together for 3yrs. The only time we are not together is when he has to go abroad for Fashion week or shoots etc, but those tend to be maybe a week or two max. I meant that we may only be able to see each other once a year AFTER he moves to Florida. He won't be able to work as much as he is in full time studies so we may not be able to afford more flights a year.

And it was based on my experience there where I have seen American women around him. They are very very forward...even when I am standing next to him. More so than the women in Europe. He gets propositioned a lot!

He has never cheated or been disloyal and up until this moment is completely in love with me. But of course, we have never been in a situation of seeing each other once a year. He is a man and eventually he will have needs - and the fact that he will be surrounded by half naked hot girls nearly 24/7 and he is probably already horny from lack of sex. I have no doubt he will get propositioned a lot. He defo gets a lot of attention in the States.

It is a difficult one as one poster said maybe it is better to end it. I just dont know. He doesnt want to. But then of course I will be stuck here in this grey cold weather while he is having the time of his life perhaps. I dunno

++++++ I AM THE ORIGINAL POSTER+++++++

OOOPSS!!!! Just realised I said "maybe see each other once a year". Just so no one misunderstands, we currently see each other about 3 or 4 times a week. We live in the same country. We also lived together at a few different points.

I meant that once he moves to America we will only see each other once a year cos we cant afford the flights.

I know the Tampa Bay area very well. There are bikini-clad beauties, and lots of tourists and college students.

You're building too many stereo-types in your head about Americans being a loose and immoral-society. The whole state of Florida is not a big resort full of naked people having a gigantic beach party. You would think so during the height of tourist-season or spring break; but any beach resort is the same around the world. The touristy areas draw people from all over the world. Students do have to work and study. They'd flunk out of school and waste a lot of money, if that's all they do.

Sunny beach resort areas anywhere in the world have naked to partially naked people, basking in the sun and having a fantastic time.

Contrary to what you may believe, American girls are average to beautiful. They don't just give it up willy-nilly. In fact, they can be pretty picky when they want to be. Which can be quite frustrating to a lot of guys.

Especially foreigners coming to America for the first time; thinking they can just jump in the sack with the first curvacious hot female that comes along. They learn very quickly what American girls are like. They are also aware of the stereotypes, and they take huge offense to them.

HUGE!!!

If you know your boyfriend, then you have to realize he may adapt to his surroundings. He doesn't have to give up his values or just forget about you! Florida is not sin-city, you're thinking of Las Vegas, Nevada! Now that's another story!

Awe, just kidding!

You only see him once a year, and you've trusted him all this time you're apart. Is your opinion of America so low that you don't think we know boundaries or have any sense of morality?

It all depends on what your boyfriend wants to do when he gets here. Don't fault us for that.

Your relationship is strained from the fact you hardly have the security ever being close to him.

You've always had a long-distance relationship. You really should consider perhaps moving closer; or finding yourself a relationship that doesn't require you to love over long distances. It's getting too much for you.

Now you're creating wild scenarios in your head, which may have some validity. Truthfully; you've lived too far from your boyfriend for far too long anyway.

Florida is a very popular location for people to retire and for college students who love the sun; and year-round warm weather. In any college-town, you will find young people who like to party and naturally they will appreciate the convenience of nearby beaches.

If you can't live with the reality of all this, you should break free and allow yourself to find someone closer and enjoy a less stressful relationship. It doesn't make too much sense that you're so stressed; when you hardly ever see him but once a year anyway. Americans have the notion Europeans are less inhibited. You have a lot more nude beaches there, than we do here.

If he wants to cheat, he has all the opportunity in the world to do that where he is.

I think you should break up for the 3 years and see if you meet again if/when he returns. It's not fair to either of you to have that distance and only be able to afford 1 or 2 visits a year.

Date other people in the 3 years and, if you're both single, you can try reconnecting.

I know that seems like it would be awful, but your only other choice is not great either, regardless of whether jealousy is an issue or not. This type of distance for 3 years is very likely to be too much for such young adults who can't afford to keep travelling back and forth.
