I love my boy best mate but he has a gf and i know that me and him will never get together but im finding it really hard to let go as i know i wont be able to cope if he wasnt in my life. How can i distant myself from him without either of us getting hurt and ruining the friendship?

If you love him that much, you're friendship is already over. You need to get closure on the hope that the two of you will ever get together.

Focus on getting closure, and that might mean cutting all contact with him. There is no point in wishing that he will be in your life forever, as at some point, you both will move on, have families, and get on with life in different directions.
