Loads of guys I know do this. (Ages vary from 14 to 50 depends on thier friendship). I see/hear this on the Train/Tube/Bus.
Its nothing to worry about just male friendly competitive banter here in the UK. I notice it seems to be more prevalent in guys who play/watch team sports.
Why are you worried about it?

Is he dirty texting female or male friends?
What kind of dirty texts are they? Jokes, flirting, details of his sex life, just general attaching dirty words to every text or using slang metaphors to describe normal things.
For me and my friends it's not normal, we see it as immature and unnecessary. Only the very rare dirty joke might be passed along.
But that's my specific clique, we do speak some filthy stuff when we're drinking and stuff, but that's only so we can split our sides laughing.
It is kind of normal for a lot of guys though, usually the type of guy that thinks page 3 of the sun is the best part of that paper or that freak show Jordan is actually sexy.
