I've been in a relationship with a lad for about 2 years now and I'm ready to sleep with him. I'm 16 years old so I'm legal, and I'm on the pill. I've heard that condoms aren't very good when you want pleasure. Since I'm on the pill is it okay to not use a condom and not fall pregnant.... I know he is clean and doesn't have any STI's. Please help, thanks x

It is true that condoms can stop a certain amount of sensitivity, but they aren't really that bad at all, especially not to the extent that someone your age should be not using them. I think considering you are just starting out with it all, you should definitely be using them along with the pill, you want to be double sure that no accidents happen and you end up pregnant and having to go through all that drama. In the future, once you have become comfortable and used to each other and have managed to maintain a sexual relationship, maybe then it would be a better time to talk about trying sex without using condoms, but staying with the contraceptive pill?

I would suggest you still use the pill for the following reasons-

-Sex can still be very enjoyable with a condom.

-The pill isnt 100% effective so by using the condom you are MUCH MORE safer.

-Although you said he you know he doesnt have any STI's, how can you be sure? Have you seen the test results? How long ago were they taken?

I think its just a huge risk to not use a condom so I would really hope you wouldnt take it just because you think it may be more enjoyable without it. At least try sex with a condom and you'll probably be suprsied.

Take care :)

Hey There! Please USE A CONDOM!! ALWAYS! No Excuses! It really doesn't make much of a difference to feeling and your safety is THE most improtant thing. It's just not worth getting into the habit of having sex without using a condom. You have a long life to live and many partners will come and go, you have to protect yourself. Some std's can lead to infertility and cervical cancer. I am in my late 20's now and nearly every girl I know has had problems with their smear test (HPV) etc, from having sex without condoms in their pasts. You can NEVER be too careful when it comes to your health. Men will ALWAYS tell you it feels better without using a condom. This is selfish on their part. Any decent man will ALWAYS use a condom, no questions asked. Don't risk it!

sugar_sugar agony auntHere is a site with some statistics on the pill

http://www.youngwomenshealth.org/femalehormone1.html

It's not 100% effective, and especially at your age I would not want to take any chances with it!!

Has your boyfriend been tested for STI's, are you absolutely certain beyond any doubt that he doesn't currently have, or won't contract any in the future?

My friend was conceived despite his mother being on the pill AND another form of contraceptive being used. Don't risk it.
