Is my boyfriend stealing from me?

Question - (30 October 2012) 6 Answers - (Newest, 4 November 2012)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I dont mean to accuse my boyfriend, but when I was out with him the other week when i did NOT spend a penny, and I went out with 10 pound, I came back with no money at all, not even for the bus. I thought nothing of it until the other day where I lost 15 pound, I only lose the money when I'm around him.

Does anyone else think he is stealing from me?

So_Very_Confused agony auntthe fact that YOU think he's stealing from you is enough.

I tend to lose things... so if you think it's him then perhaps you could set him up...

but if you think it's him, you must have a low opinion of him.... I would never consider dating a man who could steal from strangers let alone from people they supposedly care about.

If you think he's stealing from you then I say yes he is stealing from you and you need to find out for sure if he's stealing from you so you can tell his a^^ off and let him go. If I were you I would set him up, I would make sure I put some money in the same places where he has been taking it and I would lay a couple of dollars some where in the bathroom. Lord knows what else he has stolen from you, I wouldn't want him in my house.

Honeypie agony auntWhere did you keep the Money? Is anything else missing? Are you 100% sure you brought the money? Is there anyone else who could have snatched it? Did you leave your purse/wallet unattended at anytime during the night?

None of us here can say for sure that he took it or didn't take it.

You need to try and re-trace your steps as far as the money.

Its hard to say about the £15 because we don't know where you left it or it went missing from, but the £10, all I can say to that is don't you keep your money inside a purse in a handbag or your pocket? Surely you would be aware if your boyfriend has had his hands in any of those places.

Staceily agony auntNo way for us to say. How do you carry your money and how would he have access to it? If it is easily accessible and you leave the house certain without a doubt you have money then after seeing him you are broke then he probably is stealing from you. I would basically lay a trap if I were convinced someone was stealing from me. For instance if he is visiting your house, lay some money in the open but not too obvious. Before he leaves see if it's gone, if it is then confront him. Or any variation of a trap that is possible for you and you can catch him easily without any doubts.
