Me and my girlfriend are going to the beach this Saturday and I wanted to know is it's safe or not to have sex in the water? I am thinking about bringing this idea up to her but I don't know if it is safe or not.

Honest Answer agony auntOcean should be fine. Stay away from lakes and ponds (bacteria). Pools should be safe.

Just remember, STDs and pregrancy are possibilities if you don't use a condom.

Good Luck!

Jeff

Honeypie agony auntYou know, if you want sex & water.. Try it out in a tub or shower.

And,..... sex on the beach is way hotter in the movies, sand in every crack isn't hot at all - Trust me. ;)

What everyone has said before me is perfect... just a tiny side note

Silicone lube is 'water resistant' - u can use it in the shower and it lasts for ever. You can probably use it in the ocean tooo, but lube up before going into the ocean maybe?

I'd say have sex on the beach, not the ocean. Super romantic... but... *shudder* crabby things and weird floating things in water.... gross.

dirtball agony auntSex in a pool can be a lot of fun, but I wouldn't dream of doing it in lake or sea water. Too many little nasties floating around in there.

And definitely be wary of sand in unwanted places!

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (18 May 2010):

Tisha-1 agony auntOh dear lord, I just had a flashback to being in the ocean a couple of years ago. My skin started stinging and I got out of the water to see what was going on. I was COVERED with little miniature crab-like creatures just nipping away at my skin. *shudders* They were all over me under my suit! ARGH! I cannot imagine getting one of those critters up in my hoohah. No way no sir owowowowowowowowOW! They were some sort of larval crab. I'm getting the shudders just thinking about it.

I expect you wouldn't like one of them hanging onto your penis, either.

I guess the question is, is the water safe? The other thing to keep in mind is that the thrusts of intercourse will cause water to enter her vagina. This may cause reduced lubrication and will cause chafing for both of you.

Having sex in water in no way minimizes the risk of tranmitting infections or of pregnancy.

Don't forget that there's the issue of having sex in public and being caught by law enforcement. They tend to frown on that sort of thing, and if you are underage, well, it just seems like a risk you shouldn't be taking.

So consider all the factors while making this decision. Good luck, be safe!

I think one point that you are missing, whether it is safe or not, is that you cannot legally have sex on a beach. I'm 15 and i know that! Come on, think about it eh?

A female reader, Honeypie United States + , writes (18 May 2010):

Honeypie agony auntIf you mean can she still get pregnant? Or could either of you catch the other persons STD ( if either of you have an STD)

The answer is YES. She can still get pregnant and STD's can still be transmitted..

Safest way to avoid pregnancy is using a condom & birth-control pill.
