I'm the type that gets bad cramps, so I found out that my cramps got worse when I masturbated...they eventually went away, but IMHO it's not for me; I just don't really feel in the mood during that time. I wait until after I'm done.

 It's totally okay to masturbate while on your period, just make sure (as you would any other time) that your hands, and fingernails are totally clean. Otherwise, the most you risk is getting a little messy - but if you don't mind, it's completely healthy.
