yes it is normal for many young women. However there are sometimes things that can help....the doctor sometimes will prescibe birthcontrol pills for this reason.it does help some women. i have a niece that suffers the first day or two every month. She has done this for 8 years now almost every month. just gets very sick and pale and cannot function. I would definitly talk to a gynocologist about it and see if there is something that will help. just because it is normal doesnt mean it is something that you have to learn to live with. good luck -mal

MonksDaBomb agony auntIf you're asking if using a heating pad during your period is normal, yes it is. I get bad cramps and I find having the heating pad between my naval and butt - where the cramps are - really helps relieve them. I have also heard that taking a nice hot bath before you actually start helps relieve cramps, too.

It is not normal to take darvacet for a period....that is a narcotic for pain and you really do not need that kind of pain medication for menstrual cramps. Did your mother give you one of her perscriptions? If so that is not OK to be taking someone else's medication. Especially since you are actually considered a child and children of your age (sorry) can be affected much differently than adults on certain medications.

You definately should see a doctor to discuss your symptoms. I think you will find that if you take anti inflammatory drugs a week or so before you know your period is to start that you will reduce your cramps to almost nothing. When you have a period your body produces hormones and an inflammatory process begins in your body to start the menstrual flow...for some women and girls this can be quite painful. A heating pad does make you feel better at the time, but doesn't do alot to prevent the symptoms. Your doctor may put you on a perscription nsaid, but you can also try taking ibuprofen drugs like Aleve and Advil. They do not work as well if you wait until you start to have pain. In order to get rid of the cramps, you must start taking them ahead of time, like a week prior to the date you are supposed to start your period, because the inflammatory process begins before your period arrives.
