It's totally ok to be friends with an ex...but if you are still in contact because you still have feelings for him then this isnt really fair on your boyfrend. If thats the case then i suggest you be on your own for a while to sort your feelings out. Yes, it may hurt your boyfriend but you will be doing thr right thing in not stringing him along.
If its harmless chat just to catch up then you should be honest with your boyfriend about when you talk to him. Hiding the truth will only make it seem more suspicious than it may actually be.
