I am not sure I understood your question. When was he masturbating in front of you - while you were making love? How does that work? Do you mean, he masturbated in front of the computer, because you are in a long distance relationship?
Anyway, no matter if it's normal or not, if you feel uncomfortable, then tell him so clearly.
You have a right to feel whatever you feel and if this is too early, then you guys should wait with sexuality and first learn how to talk about these things.
Find out which degree of intimacy you would like to have, what would be okay for you to do.
