I know that this isnt a love, dating, or sexual question but this sight is full mindfull and intelligent individuals and I was.wondering if any of you felt the same way about Western society today??

As a man in my twenties I do not want to sound as if I am an old man griping about "poeple nowdays!!" but there most certianly seems to be something counter productive and even when you leave out morals, religion, and right vs wrong there are still things that seem unhealthy or just plian screwed up. It feels as if being directionless and expecting very little out of life seems to be a new obsession in popular culture and Individualism and Idealism seems to be very scorned apon and you are often mocked for living for something beyond you next paycheck and having hobbies, passions, dreams and ideals in college and adult working life and that it is only okay to have these things as a kid in your k through 12

years.

I have no issues with people looking, acting, and thinking differently than what they did back in the 1950s but I am just sick of the thought processes that that a meaningless life is the most fulfilling one when the converse is actually true. Both my career as a professional bodyguard

and growing up doing both sports and martial arts since my grade school years

through high school graduation(Only had time for the dojo after high school) it became natural for me to see beyond the bubbling surface of pop culture and see something deeper. I do my job becuase I love Individuals and I can affect the course of history by making sure that they dont get assassinated.

Any one else of you fine INDIVIDUALS feel this way???

Some of us loose our way, some don't know any 'other way' some of us only 'find' our 'true self' and pursue our mission of reaching our potential. Some are lucky and are placed in the right enviroment to achieve this, while other's have the wrong enviroment and some just 'fall asleep. we are expected to be the 'same persons' and reach the same credit scores, reach the same goals. A key word here is 'UNIQUE'.

We can all have an effect on the course of history, simply by smiling at someone or scowling, saying a nice word.

Don't have to go deep to find meaning it's all on the surface really, all we need to do is wake up :)

A male reader, anonymous, writes (21 May 2013):

How many young people in the USA today can make enough money to pay for a set of normal life goals?

The most successful young person that I know is in his early 30s. After adjusting for realistic inflation and life costs, he is still earning less than his parents made at his age. And the majority of young people are doing far worse than he is.

Ya know I keep asking myself that question- it does seem people just go through life without doing anything to better themselves or exert to do anything worthwhile- whether itbenefits themselves, or others. Maybe in this western culture, people are just obsessed with consumerism and so used to having anything they want handed to them- whenever they want! It's god dame hard not to adapt to that lol! But I think the people that just admit to themselves that something hard is worthwhile doing, well that's a start, there's hope! Haha :)

janniepeg agony auntWhen you say western I take that to mean developped and technologically advanced countries with mega tropolis, dense cities. When you see that there is nothing else left to improve on, and that being wealthy does not equal happiness, people lose their drive. It's those developping countries where people are eager to learn new languages, push their children to go to college so their future won't be struggling like they had been.

A reason why people feel purposeless today is because of too much competition. Too many people and too few jobs. Their dreams don't really match up to practicality in a career field. College education and a housing price today mean you become a slave for your whole life.

You ask a loaded question here. You have free will and you can go just about anywhere in the world today to try finding yourself if you like to call it that. Every culture has its issues. Western culture today as we know it is undergoing a change. In the 1900s it was industrialization, today it is technology and knowledge. I forget what the web page is but they are looking for people to go to mars in 2020 or 2025. It will be a one way ticket for now but it could prove interesting. You have to apply on line. I forgot the web address. Do a goggle search on it. This might be what your looking for. Starting mans exploration of space. My understanding they will do the moon base first in about ten years to make it a supply point for further ventures towards mars. Would this reference point now give you a purpose in life. to be one of the first space colonists from earth. Sounds neat no??? Sure does to me. But it is not my forte. Let me know if this would make you happy? Are you tech savy? Do you have unique skills or skills that you could develop that could be used in space exploration?
