Hey, I saw a similar question earlier and it got me thinking. I'm gonna be really blunt, I'm veery skinny. I weight around 100 lbs, I'm 5'9" and I'm 14. I eat rather unhealthily, I get my twiggyness from my mother.

Also, I have many MANY other friends who are more shall I say buxom than I am.

They are more well-rounded, and have much bigger boobs/asses than me. They also seem to attract more guys than I do.

Is this true for other skinny girls? And guys, do you naturally prefer more well-rounded girls? It's becoming something that I feel needs addressing.

I know how you feel! I am skinny but it's not as if I don't eat anything! I hate it when people say real woman have curves! and when girls go OMG you mustn't eat ect... But the only way I get through it, is because I know my body hasn't fully developed yet and it's okay to be naturually skinny if thats who you are. The media is very confusing, one day it's 'EW you can't be fat!' and the next 'Skinny is NOT healthy' skinny is healthy if thats your natural build. It's okay not to have curves yet, you need to be as proud of your body as a curvy woman would be of hers! Remember some people die trying to get a body like yours so don't stress to much and be grateful that you are naturally skinny and curves are still to come.

A male reader, LovelessAct1 United States +, writes (28 December 2011):

Personally, I prefer girls who have a little more shape, but certainly not to an unhealthy degree.

But overall, you should not be so concerned with it at your age; instead your focus should be on simply eating healthy and maintaining a normal (note: normal) exercise schedule. Young women tend to have issues with self confidence and body image, so its very very important that you see how vital it is not to overeat/undereat or overexercize/not exercize at all, but instead find a good healthy balance.

When you say you eat unhealthy, do you mean you don't eat a lot? Or you eat regular amounts but mostly junk? Overeat? Depending on your answer, different advice could apply. However, generally its important to:

1. Eat 3 square meals a day. Especially if you're in high school, you should be eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner all with decent servings of fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy, and proteins. Snacks through out the day are perfectly fine as well as long as they're moderate.

2. Stay hydrated and increase your calcium intake. Drinking water is very important, but drinking milk or getting another source of calcium is extremely important for women your age.

3. Get on a good sleep schedule. You'll feel better, you'll think clearer, you'll eat better.

4. Find an exercise schedule that works for your height, weight, sleep schedule, and food intake.

5. Focus on health, NOT on looks. Remember, you're not changing your eating/work out habits for your looks; you're doing this to be healthy. What society considers good looking now days is usually NOT healthy and can be very harmful for your future health. Any decisions you make, make them for YOU and only you.

Fatherly Advice agony auntTeenage Dream Girl,

Generally we are very hesitant to encourage teenagers to get too obsessed about their weight or body shape. Especially when like you you are following the genetic pattern of your parent. Most often I do take the time to run your height and weight through the CDC web site tools. Statistically you are very thin. They recommend talking to a doctor. There are some other things you should be looking for. For example, is your menstrual cycle regular? If so there is probably little to worry about.

On the other hand your own report of not eating healthy is worrying. Growing up in the US you have probably been indoctrinated with the food pyramid and the idea of eating a good variety of vegetables. Beyond that, at your age you should be getting plenty of calcium (dairy products, and many leafy green vegetables). It is like putting money in the bank for your child bearing / nursing years. The next step is to review your lifestyle with a dietician or your doctor and determine how many calories you need. Once you have that information you can together evaluate what a healthy diet and weight goal should be.

Now to your final question, "And guys, do you naturally prefer more well-rounded girls?" There is this theory out there that men are more attracted to women who appear to be well suited to bearing children. To put it crudely wide hips and large breasts. In practice mens tastes vary a lot. We tend to be attracted to the shapes of the women we have been close emotionally to. We have evolved past the evolutionary demands. Just as women today are less interested in how much money the man makes.

Instead concentrate on your personality. Be a good friend and be generous with your smiles.

As far as your weight if you haven't seen a doctor in a year ask you mom to go with you to see one about this. Don't cut back on exercise. Not only is it healthy, it will make you a happier person.
