Identify theft for sex illegal?

Question - (2 June 2022) 4 Answers - (Newest, 7 June 2022)
A male Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I sort of resemble a Fox News reporter named Matt Finn. We are both handsome guys of course. I am in no way related for the record. An American girl approached me in a bar and asked if I was him. I said no. She kept asking and accused me of lying. I showed her my ID and she acted skeptical. She was getting drunker and so was I, so finally when she asked again I said I was but don't tell anyone. It was insane. She was all over me. She was very attractive btw in my opinion. We got an uber because we were smashed and ended up at her place. It was epic sex as far I remember and she kept calling me Matt. She even had to borrow more condoms from a roommate so we could go a few more times. Her roomate told her I was not Matt Finn but she did not seem to care. Next morning she woke up pissed showing me my ID and telling me I lied about being Matt Finn. She made me leave and said she would sue me and turn me in. I am not proud of having drunk or semi-drunk sex and like being such a horndog with a stranger. But what is she talking about? She said it was identity theft for sex. Am I like in legal trouble because I let her pretend I was some American reporter she has a crush with? Why would some American cable news reporter be in Vancouver? It makes no sense. Personally, she may be mental and that would be the sad part which makes me feel more like a cad. But is there anything about the law here or was she just shrieking mad at me for being a regular guy?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (7 June 2022):

I can't see this being illegal as you both consented to sex and her flatmates told her that you were not this well known guy called Matt that your sex partner is obsessed with.

You also had your own valid ID on you and you showed it to her.

You fulfilled a sexual fantasy of hers after she made it quite clear that she was attracted to you.

I just looked up what Matt Finn looks like, so if you look like him I can see why some women would find you attractive but you would not be for me. I like my men to be broader, beefier, more muscle, hairier, less feminine and delicate looking - never mind. Better luck next time.

You both sound mental. It is obvious she would have to prove that you had claimed be this famous person, not just he said this and he said that. It is also obvious it would cost her a lot of money to take it to court. Money she cannot afford.

This is what you get for trying to get a quick, easy, free leg over. Cheaper and simpler to pay a professional.

A female reader, RitaBrown United Kingdom +, writes (6 June 2022):

She's probably just shrieking mad but, it depends on which country you live in whether she has any legal case against you.

In the UK a few people have been prosecuted for "rape by deception" but not many of them seem to have been successful so far (out of the ones that made it to the news anyway).

And you did tell this girl several times initially that you weren't Matt Finn (and so did other people) so a good defence lawyer could help you build a good case if it did come down to that stage.

But, illegal or not, it's time for you to reflect on your behaviour because you DID take advantage of this girl and the situation you found yourself in.
