Please help, myself and my girlfriend have been together 13 years since high school I am now 27 she is 25. We live together and have no previous history of cheating. The problem is I have booked to go on holiday with the boys for a week in Sept and she is just not wearing it. There seems no room for compromise and I wonder if this will be a president set for the relationship? is this normal ???

Wow you two have been together for a long time!

I think if you have dedicated enough time to your girlfriend, and you have made it clear that she is number one in your life then perhaps you should be "allowed" to go on holiday with your friends. Can I ask - have you been on holidays away with her?

This could be that she feels you are choosing your friends over her, or it could be that she is insecure and worried that you will be tempted to go with someone else.

I personally think it is important to "have fun" when you are at your age, because once you settle down, it will be all the more harder to do things, such as go on holiday with the guys. If you have done things like this, by the time you settle down you won't ever feel like you have missed out. You will be able to concentrate on your relationship and do couple holidays knowing you've had your "fun" when you were younger.

I have to go back to the question of whether or not you have been on holiday with her. If you have then I think your girlfriend should trust you and let you go away and have some fun without her. If you have not been away on holiday with her, I can see her side and I think you should choose to be with her and not your friends.

Depending on how strong and sure you are of your relationship I think you should think hard about giving up something you really want to do. If there are cracks showing in your relationship, perhaps it is not wise to give up the opportunity to go away with your pals. I went away on a rediculously crazy holiday with 8 male friends when I was 17 and I still think about the fun times we had. I was single yet I didn't want to be with any one else, it was all just innocent fun for me and if I had been in a relationship back then, and she stopped me from going, I would have been gutted!!

Compromise, yes, but don't give up what you believe to be right and true my friend. Good luck!

first of all 13 years into the relationship you guys should be proud of yourself.. it's ok cos we do need time apart sometimes but you guys have been together for a long time so if she can trust you then i can't see the problem
