I want to ask him if he's interested in a long distance relationship, is this a stupid idea?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hi, I'll try to make this very short.

Basically, I'm in love with a guy...let's call him Jake. The thing is, Jake lives very far away. As in, across the ocean far away (I'm in America and he's in Wales.)

We didn't meet online, we know one another personally, but due to certain circumstances, we're on different continents - and it's going to be that way for at least 3 more years.

For the past 2 years that we've been seperated, we've kept up a really close online penpal relationship. And my feelings for him are just as strong as ever. He's done lots of things that make me think he feels the same way (spending $75 on Valentine's Day to send me flowers overseas for starts!)

I'm going to visit him in about 2 weeks. We'll be spending a week together, then we'll be seperated for 2 months, then he's coming to visit me in America for a week.

If he was a regular guy that I liked living in my town I'd just say "Hey wanna grab a coffee, I like you." But since he's so far away, I can't just do that.

Since I think he feels the same way, I want to tell him how I feel, and see if he's possibility interested in a long distance relationship. I just don't know how to go about it. I don't want to sound ridiculous, because he probably (like most people) think that a UK-US relationship is stupid and pointless...but I just can't let him go without knowing.

I feel like this visit is my only chance to show him how I feel. What should I do??

Sorry that wasn't so short! Heh.

sunrise agony auntgo for it, you will only regret it if you dont. When you spend time with him you may not have to say anything it may all just happen naturally, but just in case be prepared with what you want to say, he obviously feels something for you, you have nothing to lose really, cause if he says no then it will be up to you whether you remain friends, and you can move on with your life knowing where you stand.Good luck x
