writes: For the past few months, I have been growing increasingly close to a guy. From nothing I would now say I can consider him a friend, and I know that I have supressed feelings for him. The thing is, that he works..at my sixth form. I'm not yet 18, but I am above the age of consent, and I'm not particularly naive or easily impressionable, no matter what you may think. The guy is not my teacher of any sort, but a administration/technician thing. Whilst I know that myself I wont let this relationship lead to anything sexual, we get on so well that it will appear so anyway. As far as I know his professional position and relationship to me means that he is not in a "position of trust" and so it is not illegal, but dubious. Even our friendship now, which includes relaxed friendly flirting would not really be approved of in my college. I don't know what to do, becuase I like him, a lot..

reader, anonymous, writes (1 June 2006): Be VERY careful what you do. Any employee of a school/sixth form in the UK has to go through stringent background checks, and I think it's in their contract not to interfere with any student. I know the builders at my sixth form weren't even allowed to talk to us, and they weren't even direct employees. You may risk this guy his job.
