Hi. I'm going to start a work placement next week, that i have to do for one month. If i don't go, my benefits will be stopped for a few months. I am on benefits while i look for work. The benefits i am on are called Jobseeker's Allowance. However, i suffer from anxiety, and i am really nervous about going on the placement. I'm not very sociable, and i worry bout doing things wrong. Sometimes, i have made mistakes a other places i have worked, and i got really embarassed, and it made me not want to go back there. I tried to apply for Incapacity Benefit, which is what you go on when you have a disability, but i got rejected. They must think i am capable to work, but i don't feel that i am personally. I also suffer from depression and get panic attacks. I have to have some sort of money coming in, as i still live with my family ,and have to pay my way. Can anyone give any suggestions on how i can stop feeling anxious, and how i can pretend to be more confident and sociable on my placement, even if i don't always feel confident and sociable ?. I know that when you are at work, you have to come across that way all the time ,and you have to seem like you're happy all the time, which can be difficult, as you don't really feel that way all the time .

Hi. Well, i used to get bullied a lot at school and college. I know it was a long time ago when i went there, but for some reason, it still affects me. Something else that might have caused it is my dad was very strict with me, and he used to tell me off a lot whenever i did things wrong, even over little things. He had a really short fuse and was verbally abusive towards me.I was frightened of him. And, to be honest, i haven't been able to hold a job down. I haven't worked at any place for very long, and haven't had many jobs in general. So i know i need to build my confidence up. I think they are the only reasons why i have felt anxious.

a-g55, thanks. I will private message you soon.

a-g55 agony auntHey,

I have my own confidence clinic in cumbria but i will be able to teach you real confidence. its a serious issue and it cant be resolved on here. if you private message me i can pass on some pschology knowledge to you which will help you see things differently and that will start you off with some confidence. but hypnotherapy in your local area would help if i cant.

Do you know why you feel anxious? Because once you know that and understand it, you can beat it. Any emotion (or anything, for that matter), can be beaten once the cause is understood. Do you know why you feel anxious?
