writes:Hi, I need some advice please about my ladyfriend's vaginal odour. I only get to see her about once every couple of months and we have a good sexual relationship in the short time we're together. However, on my last visit a few days ago, I was about to go down on her as usual (she loves that) when I noticed an unpleasant, 'cheesey' smell. The taste was pretty bad too. There's never any noticeable smell usually and we always shower together beforehand so, could she be suffering unknowingly from some sort of infection? If so, how would she get this? Has she been with someone else do you think? As you may imagine, a bit too delicate to just come right out and ask her.

 I've got to agree with hunnypie if shes smelling then don't be eating down there..ask her to see her dr.

 Because that is rather odd, I have thought of a way where you can be descreet about it. Tell her you are going in for your six month test, just so you are always clean and safe, and ask her to go with you to get one too! Tell her you can never be too careful and its a great routine to get in to. I think that will be absolutly wonderful, and very descreet. As advice to you, I think it might be something like a yeast infection, but I'm no doctor and certinly have not seen what you have seen. So please get checked!!!! I hope that will work for you, just try it and see! Good luck honey!!!

Causes of Vaginal OdorMost, (95%+) vaginal odor is caused by an infection called "gardnerella" which causes bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial Vaginosis is one of the chief causes of vaginal odor. Could also be a yeast infection. Pretty hard to tell someone they smell and taste bad. It's hard to say if cheating is the reason. But you two need to talk more openly. And if she smells/tastes funky then I wouldn't go down on her..

reader, anonymous, writes (1 January 2009): There is something where if you clean yourself down there excessively and use too many soaps etc you can get a smelly infection which can be quite nasty - maybe that's a possibility? Maybe it's near her period? Maybe you could say.. 'have you showered today?' or if you don't like to mention it suggest you shower together? But I understand your predicament, in the end you have to ask, as having sex with someone that you think may have caught something from someone can't be a pleasurable experience?
