I miss who "we" were. Is there any way to get it back?

Question - (19 October 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 19 October 2009)
A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My friend and I used to always joke around that we were soul mates. And for a while, I believed it. But as time progressed, she started to get really into partying and drinking, and I cannot tolerate it at all.

I feel like we're becoming two different people very rapidly. Our conversations that were once full of laughs and pointless banter are now replaced with small talk and awkward silence. I couldn't bear to ask her to stop drinking, and I'm not about to start drinking just so we can be on good terms again. Is there anyway I can get over this? What should I do? I really miss what we were.

Thanks :)

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (19 October 2009):

Something has happened to her to suddenly make her like this. You can't get back to who you were, but what you can do is be a good friend to her and just gently ask her if everything is okay with her at the moment. Certainly don't drink yourself. Just be a good friend and see if something is wrong.
