A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Well... This probably will seem like a really dumb problem.. but I need help. It's not really a relationship question either, but I hope you can help anyways.

About a week ago, I went and got a haircut, before I went in, my hair was down past my shoulders. I asked her to take off about 2 inches, and she cut it clear up to my chin, and I HATE it. It doesn't suit me at all! It makes my face look extremely fat, and my hair is curly and thick so it doesn't straighten well.

Ever since then.. I've been depressed about that, and other things. Maybe if I had some ways to do it that it would look good this would go away? If not, do you have any other ways to be happy again?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

thanks for everyones help! your answers made me feel a whole lot better. although i cant afford extensions, what i did was i went in and got my hair cut again, (this time by someone who WASNT a barber) and i had her thin my hair, and add layers, and razor the ends so it wasnt flat on the bottom. she showed me some ways to style it and now im feeling a whole lot better =)

thank you so much for your helpfulness =)

BlondeBabe x agony auntYeah hair extentions are great but cost a abosulte forture, my hair is curly aswel so maybe instead of hair extention for christmas you save up for a pair of really hot hair straighters, as the hotter they are the better they will be at straigting your hair.

When hair curly it looks shorter than it does straight so if you straightend it wood look abit longer, and then you could accesorise with hair bands or clip or whatever, and when its straight it ties back easier aswel.

Straighter I persoanly think are better than extentions, as straighter can last years when extention sometimes only last a week.

But you are the only one that can decide what you would like to do.

Good Luck! x

Teacake agony auntThat is my life story! I grow out my hair for years and then go for a trim thinking it will just take the dead ends off and I can't even keep track of how many butcher jobs I've had.

I have very curly hair and getting the right cut seems near impossible.

I usually just wear it back until its long enough to let down. Its a bad idea to try to fix it yourself. I've made that mistake too many times.

If you look cute with a scarf that is used the way a head band is worn, that is something I did a lot too.

Thing is, everyone else probably thinks it looks cute and in a month or so, you'll have adjusted to the new look and it won't be so bad for you.

hats and caps ? Extensions are so expensive and you need to get the real hair that costs alot if you want it to look good. Cheap extensions start to look horrible after a week or so!

aah extensions is a fantastic idea but, sadly, I can't afford them..

maybe I'll ask for them for christmas =P

But I cried for over an hour about it! It seems like such a lame problem, but the lady that cut it, no one told my that she is normally a BARBER.

Thanks for your answers. I believe I'll be saving up for extensions, since my hair grows about half an inch in like.. two months..

thanks everyone =] I feel better already

Kathh agony auntI agree with all the above but would add that it could be worth going back to the original salon. If you didn't ask them to cut it that short in the first place they should be happy to help rectify the problem, whilst they won't do extensions for free (if they do them at all) they may offer you some discount :o)

A female reader, sarcy24 United Kingdom +, writes (29 November 2008):

sarcy24 agony auntI know how you feel as this happened to me at your age. I had really long hair and she cut it to my chin and it made me look like a big egg. God how I cried and cried. Definitely get some extensions as soon as possible and you will feel happier again. It will do your hair really good for a cut like this and make it much healthier and stronger so try to think of that until you get the extensions done. Also go for the best extensions that you can afford as it is worth it. Don't cry anymore it will be over soon and is growing all the time.

Extentions is an excellent option (if you can afford it) Fortunately hair grows! You probably need some time to get used to it! I am very anal when it comes to my hair and when I find a good hair dresses who does exactly what I want I stick with that person.

While you are waiting for that new growth, go shopping for some cute, funky hats. With the right hats you may begin to like the new shorter look. The hats will change the focus to the top of your head rather than the your opinion that your face looks fat! I know how you feel, it's a terrible feeling. But there are solutions. Experiment! As time goes by it'll get better!

A female reader, petina1 United Kingdom +, writes (29 November 2008):

petina1 agony auntGo and get some extentions, they are the next best thing and people that use them always have a haircut first. Then your own hair can be growing out unnoticed. hope this helps.
