I have become extremely self-conscious, how do I find my old confidence?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

At the beginning of the year.. i was rejected by a man i wanted ... but who turned out to not want me. with trying to get over that... I became extremely depressed [coming out of it now]... but I have also become more spiritual as a result [which has really helped me focus on the bigger picture]. Apart from my mother's death, this was by far the next worst pain i have ever felt in my entire life. the biggest problem is that i realised i have become extremely self conscious... and have gotten this low self esteem that i just always feel inadequate about myself in all areas. I dont even like meeting new people or going places because i think that they will look at me like i am not good enough. this is an anomaly for me... coz i have always been a very confident person... despite the fact that I am never the prettiest or smartest person in the room. but i was always that girl who didnt care what other people thought... and knew i was good enough. lately i have had a bit of trouble getting back to that... and its become obvious that this man really affected my self esteem. I want to be able to find myself again. any advice?

Moo's Mum agony auntYou are in position that many many of us have been in before. The only way to fix this is to keep putting yourself out there and making yourself experience the things you are nervous of. The more successes you have the easier it will become and evenutally you will realise you are back to your old self again.
