For the past couble of weeks I have been feeling really down, low, I've got no energy, I just can't be arsed to do nothing, but I push myself to because I have a 4 year old boy to look after, he is good as gold bless him, he has even been asking me if I'm ok, I tell him I am but I'm not. I feel like crying, I ask myself why but I don't know why I want to cry, I feel so fat and ugly and I have been struggling to sleep, I've been to see the doctor and am waiting for some blood tests, but in the meantime what shall I do. I have a 4 year old boy and a full term boyfriend who I am pushing away from me for no reason. Please help!!!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 December 2008):

You are depressed. The symptoms you discuss are caused by depression. You need to be put on anti-depressant medication like SSRI's or TCA's (Your doctor will know what these are). Did you tell your doctor honestly your feelings? You need to make another appointment and be put on medication now. You will also benefit from counseling since the medication takes several weeks to take effect. If you feel like hurting yourself or someone else, you need to go to the emergency room for immediate help.

People do get low on energy at this time of year and also if you are losing sleep no wonder you feel tired. You could be depressed.

If it proves there is nothing physical you could try taking some exercise, even if it's only a walk out, as this can help to lift your mood. Also talking to someone you can open up to.

I don't know whether this is possible, but could someone look after your son so you can have an evening or day out with a friend? You might just need a little break and time for yourself.

MissUnique agony auntIt sounds like you're depressed. Go see a doctor, maybe tell the same doctor that you're having these blood tests with. They won't do anything rash, like take your son away but maybe they'll try you on anti-depressants or something. Go to your doctor and get it sorted out. Being depressed is no joke.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (19 November 2008):

Sounds like you have depression.

It could be due to the weather. See if you can buy a sunlight box (used to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD for short) and sit under it for a bit.

Other than that, get out and pamper yourself and light candles and make your house seem less grey. Put the christmas fairy lights up a bit early and give yourself a better atmosphere.

Do something to make yourself feel pretty, like a new haircut, or even new lipstick.

Keep telling yourself that this is just a chemical reaction in your brain and deep down you know that you are a beautiful strong woman and mother.

Good Luck!! xx
