If he does and you aren't ready to tell him, you can ask him to hangout with you something more casually. If the two of you can bag some private time, he'll be likely to make his move.

I might be from the old school, but txt'g (messenger) doesn't seem very romantic. Have you too hooked up and gone out together? The more of this, I think, will give you a better indication of his feelings, because he will be present with you, and you will see his body language, facial expressions, which will show you what he feels.
Try setting up a dinner or movie date to advance the relationship.
